Story:
|
Let me go back to my childhood days. As a kid, I had no interest in studies and never scored well in exams. May be because of this, my parents decided to move to a suburban town. When I got there, I was admitted into a neighborhood school. The first day at school, my class teacher, Arti Madam, came in and she decided to make me the class monitor. I went to her in shock and asked her why she chose me. She looked at me and said, “ Deepika, you will not let me down. You can do it”. I think that was defining moment in my life. It was the first time I was introduced to my own capabilities. Her belief in me instilled self-confidence and soon I became a top rank holder in my class. It was clear to me that when you start believing in yourself wonderful things start to happen.
After my wedding, I moved to the US and started my professional career. As a young professional, I found myself struggling with demands of career and family. There was always so much to do. My peers and friends who were women would talk about the challenges of being a professional. They were not interested in diet pills, fad diets or what Britney Spears was doing. Yet all the information online for professional women was scattered and did not address their real concerns in business and in their lives. What surprised me most was that some of these women were exceptional professionals yet in self-doubt. They needed to eliminate from their conversations all negative ideas and fill their minds with positive experiences, ideas and stories.
And when I was in Graduate school pursuing an MBA, our teacher asked us to do a project where we were to build a company as if as if it were a true business. For this project, I started to think of names of a company. I was looking for a name for a business focused towards professional women. In this list, I had names of all Greek and Hindu goddesses, the term ‘woman’ in all possible languages and some powerful adjectives. The word ‘invincible’ and ‘belle’ were in the same column in my list. And within a second, I clubbed the two words and coined the name of the company, Invincibelle.
I truly believe that in some way we are all ‘Invincibelles’. And together we are a source of energy that helps us conquer our fears and rise to the occasion. Invincibelle aims to be a premier site that provides high-quality content for professional woman. The idea is to have access to information without wasting an ounce of energy but have maximum impact in nourishing our thoughts.

So, the idea is to help our readers to get into something interesting, do something, and be something. Get out of their comfort zone.
I get excited, when all these women get involved in referring friends who are accomplished and experts to be columnists. They are interested to learn what we are doing next. If you’re not in getting into good causes, no wonder you are tired.

Passion:
|
As an entrepreneur you are passionate about changing the world or making it a better place. I never said this is an easy task. But then, is there anything that is easy?

|
Inspiration:
|
I believe in the underdogs. These are people who are not born with silver spoons in their mouths but rise through the ranks or build business empires or do exceptional philanthropic activities. Some of my role models are Mahatma Gandhi, Anita Roddick and Muhammad Yunus.

|
Motivation:
|
Every morning, I wake up in a state of wonder. What would we achieve today? What would be next? Who can we help and who can help us?
It is a new day and a new beginning and I am always looking forward to the possibilities it offers.
And then there are mornings, when we have emails from our readers who are engaging and encouraging us. Those mornings, my day is made.

Challenge:
|
The biggest lesson I have learnt is that when you are building a company, it always takes longer and costs more.
The other lesson is that when you cross the line from a corporate job to becoming an entrepreneur – it becomes tough to go back on the other side.
Like I said, entrepreneurship is a journey. So, you will always find yourself in unique and unfamiliar situations. One can only aspire to get better in living in ambiguity. I am not saying I am there but I am better than where I was one year ago.

Advice:
|
There is only one life. There are no second takes on it. If you have an idea, give it a try. Since this is an interview for SFentrepreneur, I will say you are in the best place in the world to pursue your entrepreneurial dream. The Silicon Valley provides an eco-system that encourages entrepreneurship like no other place.
Second, have lots of fun. Enjoy your journey and don’t take any situation too seriously. Remember, it is a passing phase.
"Every worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory." Gandhi

Pain:
|
I think that most of us are tired and overwhelmed because we are interested in nothing. Our personal concerns are superior to any human crisis. Nothing matters to us other than our little worries and our little desires. This drains us of our energy and we get tired. You only lose energy when you are bored doing nothing.
